Birthday Fun

Here are some pics from Griff and Gma Kris' actual birthday. They went to the Discovery Zone in the morning (though it was a tad cold...) and then later we had some yummy dinner (Chicago-style hot dogs for Gma Kris and Steak n' Shake for Griff - special requests for both) and then after bath we had some cake.

He blew out his own candles!

For some reason wiping his face caused him to crack up hysterically...

Birthday Kisses Anyone else want some?
Hmmm..cake is good but I think I'd rather have my SHAKE!
Playing with my new firetruck from Gma Kris and Gpa Tom
At Discovery Zone...I'm told the cold didn't faze him at all
Whee (always his favorite at any park)

Playtime with Daddy

It's picture catch-up time! Here are the pictures from Griff's playtime with Daddy from last weekend when I had my three-hour glucose test...Griff rocked his outfit in the yard and seemed pretty content in his Carhart short-alls - Sons of Anarchy Tee - knee socks - and Spider Man boots.

Happy Birthday Little Man & Grandma Kris!

Today marks Griffin's big SECOND birthday! We love you more than you can ever imagine...more pictures to come, and even more to come after his party this weekend! :)

And Griff was very lucky to be able to spend the big 2 with his Grandma Kris, who shares his birthday!

Tractors & Playtime

This seemed like a long weekend...even though it wasn't...and due to the weather, were able to pack a lot of activity in. I found out last week after my doctor's appointment that I had failed my one-hour gestational diabetes test. So, needless to say I was very disappointed and not exactly pleased that I now had to spend three hours of my Saturday morning sitting in the doctor's office, fasting and repeatedly having my blood taken. But, Julie offered to come with me and keep me company...and having her there definitely made the experience not so painful. We both took our laptops and work, and got a lot done! I should hear something tomorrow. Fingers crossed that I get a call tomorrow saying my levels were in the normal range!

While I was gone, Ben and Griff played in the yard. Griff was dressed in carhart shortalls, knee socks, a Sons of Anarchy t-shirt, and his Spiderman snow boots. Classic. Ben said Griff picked it out...I'm not so sure about that. :) Ben took some good pics with his camera, he says, but I don't have the energy to upload those tonight...so that will be a later post. And that afternoon after nap, while Ben was golfing, Griff and I were outside again. G refused to be inside for even a second.

And this morning Ben golfed again (have I mentioned yet how excited I am that it's golf season again?) and Griff and I headed to the county fairgrounds for Touch-A-Tractor! Griff was SO excited about it that he was pretty upset we stopped for breakfast first. If they didn't have tractors at Panera, he wanted NOTHING to do with muffins. And as soon as he saw the tractors out of his window, he was nonstop...I've never seen him so excited for anything, which is positive. However, after about 45 minutes of tractors and farm animals, G decided he didn't need to hold my hand, and he didn't need to let other kiddos have their turns on the tractors. So, when an epic tantrum occured after I told him neither was acceptable, I was embarrassed but not surprised. And we had to bid the tractors farewell.

When we got home he was exhausted...so exhausted that he wouldn't sleep. The seamless transition to his big-boy bed has hit a bit of a hiccup the past couple of days. Griff seems more interested in trashing his room, turning his touch lamp on/off/on/off, reading books, trying to put lotion on...you get the picture...rather than sleeping. And this pattern is becoming difficult for a boy that cannot function without his sleep.

Let's hope he can get his required amount of zzz's in soon because this is a big week for G-man....he turns TWO! We've got family coming into town and a little party planned and we need and want our good natured boy in attendance...so, please...sleeeeeep little boy.

His ride-on Lightening McQueen car made it's reappearance in the yard which G thoroughly enjoyed. When the car wasn't able to go he would proclaim he was "stuck," which he thought was cool, so he began to be "fake stuck," get out, and have to lift his car up to check "under the hood."

And this is the post-tantrum (as you can see it is not quite over with) picture. Too many tractors, too little time.

He had no interest in having his picture taken with the cow, but he really, really wanted to RIDE it, and kept asking to do so

Second only to the tractors...the baby chicks were by far Griff's favorite attraction. We kept coming back to see them...and pet them...and once he actually kissed a baby chick right on the beak before I could stop him. Yum.

Climbing on the combine.

Also a big fan of the baby sheep

Changing gears

A little more his size

And this is a shot from earlier this week when Auntie Liz and Claire came over for dinner. Griff climbed up in her lap and just collapsed, watching a little bit of a movie. These two are so close - it's so adorable.
And here's his new hat that Auntie Liz brought him. Claire got one for her birthday that he loved...so somehow he got one of his own. And in Griff's mind, if you are wearing a hat you should be working, so he immediately climbed on his tractor.

Another Opposite Game

Here is a video of Griff and another one of his favorite "opposite" games...he thinks it is hilarious when he says "mama" if you respond with "dada" or vice versa. Before I started the video he was giggling uncontrollably...I got some of that, but missed some of the best parts.

Big Boy Bed

Well, last week we had planned on transitioning Griff to a big boy bed, but were going to wait for the weekend in case we had to lose a few winks the first few nights. We ordered the mattress and had his bedding from Gma Cathy all laundered and ready to go. When Griff and I got home on Thursday, however, we found this:

And the crib was dismantled in the guest room. Daddy had put everything together as a surprise. So...ready or not...Griff was sleeping in his big boy bed Thursday night. And he did. And he has ever since, naptimes too. And knock on wood it's been a seamless transition. He has loved it, and loved the independence! I have to admit that yesterday morning and today, when I heard the little "click" of our door opening in the morning and Griff climbed in our bed with me to cuddle, I loved it, too.

At naptime with his two absolute favorite books of the moment: Courage of the Blue Boy and Dear Zoo. "Again?" Yes, Griff...my limit at bedtime is 6 times per book. I have them memorized.

We did a lot of cleaning & organizing again this weekend...and again Ben did the bulk of the work (thank you!). And we also spent a lot of time on Saturday in the yard...cleaning up a winter's worth of gifts from the dogs (YUCK, but necessary), trimming back our tall grasses, and playing some fetch with Tucker. Griff loved it...and we are thankful that we are having some better weather so we can make a habit of it! Griff also enjoyed watching the golfers...they definitely had a captive audience when Griff was in the yard. He made sure to go right up to the fence and stare while they were chipping & putting. I'm sure they loved it. Ha. :)
